In 2006 we planted approximately one acre of grapes as a test plot to see what varieties might work for us here. We planted two varieties of table grapes and seven varieties of wine grapes. All are considered frost hardy for this area.

The unprecedented weather events of the spring of 2007 initially appeared to have killed over 80% of the young vines with no variety going unscathed, though there were some differences between them. As time went on through the spring and early summer many of the vines which appeared frozen out began to shoot new growth and as of midsummer it appears that more than 80% will recover, though again some varieties were hit worse and the whole vineyard has an uneven appearance to it due to the varied recovery process. We anticipate replanting the missing vines and no doubt within a few years there will be little evidence of the challenging beginning.
